Sousaphonist Kirk Joseph is a founding member of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the single most influential modern practitioner of his instrument. His work defines the New Orleans funky Brass Band sound. His contributions to this record are invaluable, so it is only fitting that in his time of need (he suffered a minor heart attack in January that has cost him a fortune in medical bills and lost work) that some of the proceeds from this record go to help his recovery and to support the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic. The NOMC has been at the forefront of caring for New Orleans un-insured musicians for 10 years and have been crucial in arranging care for Kirk. The NOMC also helped to sponsor the Campbell Brothers’ trips to New Orleans in 2006 and 2007, and in turn the Campbell Brothers donated their services to play two benefits that Marc Stone produced for the NOMC that raised over $10,000 for the clinic.
